Even while helping those who suffer, even while doing acts of kindness, no ego should arise in the mind. A true Vaishnav is the one who understands the pain of others — a true devotee indeed. भारत के प्रसिद्ध कवि श्री नरसिंह मेहता द्वारा रचित इस भजन का मतलब है कि सच्चा वैष्णव वह, हरी को प्रिय व्यक्ति उसी को कहते जो दूसरों के दुःख दर्द पीड़ा को समझता हो। दूसरों के दुःख को देखकर जब व्यक्ति उसकी भलाई करे, उस पर उपकार करे, तो वह अपने मन में किसी भी प्रकार का अभिमान ना आने दे कि उसने सबका भला कर दिया। प्रायः यह देखने को आता है कि जब कोई किसी दूसरे की थोड़ी बहुत भी मदद या भलाई करता है, तो वह उसे गर्व के साथ दूसरों के सामने प्रकट करता है। यहां इस भजन में कहा गया है कि ईश्वर को प्रिय व्यक्ति वही है जो दूसरों पर उपकार तो अवश्य करे किंतु मन में थोड़ी–सी भी घमंड ना आने दे। उसी को सच्चा वैष्णव और हरि–प्रिय कहा गया है। This devotional hymn, composed by the famous Indian poet Narsinh Mehta, means that a true Vaishnav, a soul dear to God, is one who deeply understands the sorrow and suffering of others. When a person sees someone in pain and helps them wholeheartedly, he should not allow even the slightest pride to arise in his mind that he has done something great. It is often seen that when someone helps another even a little, they tend to boast about it before others. But this hymn teaches that the one truly loved by God is the one who performs kindness selflessly, without letting even a trace of ego appear. Such a person alone is called a true Vaishnav and beloved of the Divine.
