Clean The Mind, Green The Earth
Through this project, we have not just propagated the need for spiritual values but have also planted hundreds of thousands of plants to create a healthy environment.
It is our responsibility to maintain and serve the environment as much as we benefit from it. Learn how Brahma Kumaris are achieving this and join hands in these initiatives, in your own way.
The concept of universal brotherhood; the idea of the new world of peace, prosperity & happiness; the purity of heart and mind; would all be futile if we fail to ensure a sustainable ecological balance and a healthy environment. In fact, the crux of the Brahma Kumaris ideology is that outer cleanliness is based on the inner purity and vice-versa. No wonder, that over the years they have successfully undertaken many campaigns for a pure and healthy environment so that we can ensure the purity of mind, soul and body.

Through this project, we have not just propagated the need for spiritual values but have also planted hundreds of thousands of plants to create a healthy environment.

With emphasis on cleanliness, the campaign organized many dialogues at many places in the country. It aims at ensuring harmony with Nature.

The project has created awareness in public mind on the need for saving energy and water.

This project has motivated people for a pure and healthy life. Under this campaign, many cleanliness events are organized in India.

This campaign is to bring awareness amongst the public regarding the factors responsible for the various natural crisis, preparing one to face the challenges of the crisis with spiritual insights.

Brahma Kumaris celebrates UN World Environment day every year. On this day hundreds of events are organized to spread environmental awareness and trees are planted at a large scale.

We have taken the initiative to save the most precious natural resource, water. On this day events are organized nationwide in schools and other institutes to spread awareness.

Because of mass deforestation and chemical farming we are losing a large amount of good soil each year. On this day we spread awareness and motivate farmers for organic farming practices.

It’s a concept of lifestyle transformation based on spiritual ecology, an ecology of the soul that sustains & elevates our sustainable living standards. It helps us to connect back to Mother Nature.

Brahma Kumaris initiated this campaign to sensitize the people towards sustainable living. This campaign was carried out in education institutions all across the Nation.

Kalp Taruh is KalpTaru + Ruh – This term is a confluence of 2 objectives, Taru Means Tree in Hindi and Ruh means the Spiritual Energy/Being/Spirit that functions through the body.
With this project, we aim to combine the sacred process to nurture a tree as well as the soul through values, as the project is to provide sustenance to both the plant and the person who plants through an APP. So, the word has been clubbed together to form – Kalp Taruh.
Calls for an engagement with individuals (from all walks of life) to enhance their awareness and ability to take actions that are sustainable and responsible towards nature. Combines the sacred process to nurture a tree as well as the individual through values.
For over 20 years, Brahma Kumaris has become one of the key developers and promoters of renewable energy in India. In 2011 Brahma Kumaris and WRST were recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Brahma Kumaris & WRST are currently conducting research and training in the following technologies:

“India One”, a 1 MW solar thermal power plant has became operational since 2017 near the Brahma Kumaris´ Shantivan Campus in Abu Road. Om Shanti Retreat Centre, Gurugram also has a 1 MW scale hybrid solar power plant using Lead-Acid and Lithium-Ion batteries to ensure constant power supply.

Brahma Kumaris have developed and installed 6 large concentrating solar systems that produce steam for various process applications.

In addition, it has set up and operates around 350 photovoltaic battery systems all over India with a total capacity of more than 1.4 MW peaks.

For decades solar water heating plants have been used to meet our hot water needs at many of our campuses throughout the country.

Gardens promote physical health, mental health through relaxation and satification. It can provide a harmonious space to relax, unwind, reflect and restore ourselves. BKs have been entrusted with creating & maintaining a number of parks across the country.

Sustainable Yogic Agriculture (Shashwat Yogic Kheti)
An Initiative of Agriculture & Rural Development Wing of RERF
Yogic Farming involves village practices, agronomical practices, plant nutrition management (e.g. biofertilizers, rearing of earthworms, bio composting, etc) plant protection (biological control practices, organic pest repellents, integrated pest management, etc). It integrates thought-based meditative practices with organic farming. As the power of yoga has been a treasure trove of India, it can play a pivotal role in resuscitating both organic farming and farmers from the shocks of agro-chemical-based agriculture.

The government of India has mooted a well thought strategy under PKVY (Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojna) encouraging farmers associated with yogic farming to tap the treasure troves of our traditional knowledge and wisdom in farming and harness the potential of our natural resources in a sustainable way.

These Researches have been published in International Journals

Satvik Food
One of the major principles of the Brahma Kumaris is taking Satvik food. Such food is taken to come straight from the house of the Divine. Such a food or diet cannot have any element of negativity in the form of fear, hatred, anger, greed, etc. So, while all care has to be taken in its preparation, one has to also ensure that the ingredients of such food are completely pure, positive, satvik and free from violence. Hence, no tamsic item, alcoholic drinks or non-vegetarian items, and not even the onion and garlic, can be included in such food. Moreover, the food is cooked, served and eaten in the remembrance of God and taken as per the requirement and not driven by greed, so that not a speck of this food is wasted. Complete purity of food leads to positive and elevated thoughts that result in man’s spiritual nature and attitude towards his fellow beings and love and respect towards the Supreme Father.
According to the Gita, the significance of a satvik diet is that it’s light in nature, easy to digest, mildly cooling, refreshing, and not disturbing to the mind. It is rich in prana (cosmic energy), so promotes positive thoughts, happiness, and satisfaction. Emotionally and spiritually also the vegetarian diet is soothing from all angles. Moreover, a vegetarian diet encourages foods that are grown and ripened naturally. It avoids any kind of food that involves killing or harming animals. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and nuts are satvik and are believed to clean the mind and body leading to optimal physical and mental health. It also prevents us from the infections that advance at higher levels of food chain. Vegetarian food reflects human values and virtues of love, care, affection, peace, purity, happiness, benevolence, charity, spiritual brotherhood, and love of Nature and the environment.

Sewage treatment is based on sequencing batch reactor technology popularly known as SBR technology. Unlike various processes of treatments, the raw sewage as obtained for the treatment undergoes physio-chemical & biological treatments. The plant is designed in accordance with the characteristics of influent and effluent according to the guidelines set up by the Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO), published by the Govt. of India. The treated water has been useful on the BK’s campuses for watering trees, plants, and other agriculture purposes.
Such plants have been installed at Shantivan and other retreat centres of Brahma Kumaris in different parts of the country.
To spread awareness in people for saving water, Brahma Kumaris organizes various nationwide campaigns at various places and also especially on World Water Day on March 22 each Year

It may seem to be a landmark and even unbelievable yet it is true that at the Brahma kumaris we are producing almost 11 lakh litres of hot water per day by using unconventional energy. Based on reverse refrigeration technology works on latent heat present in the atmosphere acts as a fuel, this is pollution-free mega project in India doing global cooling. For the purpose of heating water, the project uses 69 air conditioning machines. The system can deliver hot water even from very cold air.
The daily saving in terms of energy is 32.24 MWs while a lot of foreign exchange (in the form of importing mineral oil) is saved when this project saves more than 5700 litres of diesel. It also discharges more than 7 lakh cubic metres of dehumidified cold air per day thus helping to reduce global warming.
