On 21 June 2026, the Consulate General of India, Sydney, and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, in association with Brahma Kumaris Australia, celebrated the International Day of Yoga 2026 through a special event titled “Beyond the Mat” at Five Dock, New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
The celebration reflected the true spirit of yoga by bringing together diverse dimensions of India’s rich wellness traditions. Aligned with the 2026 theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the morning programme featured gentle Hatha Yoga asanas, energising pranayama (breathwork) sessions, and meaningful discussions on holistic health and well-being.
Participants experienced accessible yoga practices designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional wellness. The event also included an enriching panel discussion with experts in Ayurveda, Traditional Medicine, and Raja Yoga Meditation, highlighting the complementary role of these disciplines in fostering a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
The programme was graced by Mr. Niravkumar B. Sutariya, Consul and Acting Director, Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, who emphasized the significance of the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” and underscored yoga’s enduring role in nurturing resilience, inner balance, and overall well-being at every stage of life.
Brahma Kumaris Australia was honoured to partner in this meaningful initiative, contributing through the teachings of Raja Yoga Meditation and reinforcing the universal values of inner peace, self-awareness, and spiritual well-being. The celebration inspired participants to integrate yoga and meditation into their daily lives, promoting healthier individuals, peaceful minds, and stronger communities.
