Over 220 people gathered at Brahma Kumaris, Harmony House, Leicester for a deeply moving Multi-Faith Remembrance Day held on 8 November. The event brought communities together to honour all those who gave their lives in service and to reflect on the courage shown throughout both World Wars.

This year’s gathering also marked the opening of Interfaith Week and the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, making the reflections especially meaningful.

Guests were warmly welcomed by Parmjit Basra, followed by a message from His Majesty King Charles III, read by Lord Lieutenant Mike Kapur OBE CStJ, offering heartfelt thanks to all present. Lt Col David Young TD DL JP shared a powerful tribute to the 14th Army, often referred to as the Forgotten Army, acknowledging the many soldiers from the Indian Army who continued fighting in the Far East.

Sister Jayanti, in a recorded message, spoke on the deeper spiritual meaning of remembrance and highlighted the power of peaceful thoughts that transcend boundaries and inspire others.

The Last Post, two minutes of silence, the Reveille, and the laying of wreaths created a profound moment of collective reflection. Representatives of the Crown, Armed Forces, Police, Judiciary, Civic Dignitaries and multiple faith communities offered their respects as archival D-Day footage and “Hymn to the Fallen” played in the background.

Prayers and reflections were shared by Bahai, Brahma Kumaris, Buddhist, Christian, Asian Christian, Hindu, Jain, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh leaders, many of whom expressed how uniquely unifying this gathering felt.

The event concluded with the timeless and moving words of the Kohima Epitaph:

“When you go home, tell them of us and say, For your tomorrow, we gave our today.”

For the seventh consecutive year, Brahma Kumaris Leicester hosted this meaningful gathering, continuing the tradition initiated by Resham Singh Sandhu MBE DL PBS FRSA to honour sacrifice, strengthen unity and inspire peace.
