From 10th to 21st November 2025, the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) is being held in Belém, Brazil, drawing nearly 50,000 delegates from around the world to the heart of the Amazon rainforest. The conference aims to strengthen global commitments and agreements on climate action.
In his opening speech, UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the urgency of limiting global heating to 1.5°C, calling the failure to do so “a moral failure and deadly negligence.” He criticized the fossil fuel industries for profiting from climate destruction while hindering progress toward sustainability.
At such a decisive time for the future of our planet, the Brahma Kumaris (BKs) play a vital spiritual role as one of the 4,000 accredited observer organizations. The BK delegation has received warm support from the Brahma Kumaris family in Brazil, particularly from centers in São Paulo and Salvador. Their active participation highlights the importance of inner transformation as a foundation for outer environmental action.
The COP30 Exhibition, collaboratively organized by the Brahma Kumaris, the Faith Association of the Rehabilitation of Street Children and Orphans (Ghana), the Global Peace Initiative of Women (US), and the International Youth and Student Movement for the United Nations (Switzerland), serves as a hub for meaningful dialogue, meetings, and the distribution of blessing cards and educational materials. The exhibition team—Alex, Goreth, Ananya, Nonie, Sonja, and Golo—successfully completed setup on Sunday evening, ready to welcome participants in the warm, tropical climate of Belém.
Under the inspiring theme “Our Power – Our Planet: Earth Regeneration through Reconnection with My Inner World,” the BK team emphasizes spiritual awareness as the key to restoring balance between humanity and nature.
In the lead-up to COP30, several preparatory events were organized:
A retreat on 20th–21st September at the BK Retreat Centre in Serra Negra gathered NGO representatives and local community members to explore reflections on the Global Ethical Stocktake and the role of ethics in climate justice.
A “Healthy Mind, Healthy Planet” lecture on 5th November by Golo and Sonja, hosted by Alex and Goreth from the Pituba BK Centre, inspired participants to link mental well-being with planetary well-being.
In Rio de Janeiro, Carolin was invited by Professor Simone Evangelista to speak at the State University of Rio de Janeiro on the topic “Active Hope for the Planet.” The lecture focused on fostering inner transformation and meaningful communication in climate action spaces. The session concluded with a guided meditation led by Augusto, which was received with deep engagement and sincerity.
Additionally, the BK team met with environmental leaders including biologist Mario Moscatelli, learning about successful local renaturation projects that exemplify hope and regeneration in action.
Through these initiatives, the Brahma Kumaris continue to demonstrate that true climate resilience begins within—through peace, awareness, and ethical living. Their presence at COP30 reflects a growing recognition that spiritual values and collective consciousness are essential for achieving sustainable and equitable climate solutions.
