On 3 November 2026, the Brahma Kumaris Solar House at Gyan Sarovar Campus received the prestigious Five-Star ECO Award in recognition of its environmentally friendly design and sustainable performance. The award was presented to BK Golo by the Secretary of the Public Works Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh, during the inaugural session of the 18th GRIHA Summit, held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
Built more than 30 years ago as an innovative prototype, the Solar House continues to stand as an inspiring example of sustainable architecture and environmentally conscious living. Despite being designed decades ago, the building incorporates several forward-thinking features, including double-wall construction for thermal insulation, cross-ventilation, solar water heating, solar electricity systems and innovative water conservation techniques.
These sustainable design elements help reduce energy consumption, conserve natural resources and address pressing environmental challenges such as rising temperatures and water scarcity.
The recognition highlights the vision and pioneering efforts behind the project, particularly those of BK Golo and the architect, Prof. Gernot Minke from Germany, whose innovative approach demonstrated the possibilities of environmentally responsible construction.
The Five-Star ECO Award is a significant recognition of the Brahma Kumaris' commitment to integrating spiritual values with environmental awareness and practical sustainability initiatives.
The Solar House stands as a shining example of how thoughtful architecture, innovation and care for nature can contribute towards a healthier and more sustainable future.
A sustainable world begins with conscious choices, respect for nature and responsible living.
