On 1 June 2026, Polina and Rachel attended the launch of Work, Wealth and Wellbeing: A Collective Reimagining of Social Cohesion at the House of Commons. The report was published by the UK Bahá'í Office of Public Affairs and is based on roundtable discussions held across the UK with local partners. These discussions explored how work, wealth, and wellbeing are connected to social cohesion in society.
The event included an engaging panel discussion featuring Prof. Nava Ashraf from the London School of Economics, Dr. Mohammed Ahmed from the Woolf Institute, Dr. Brian Grim, Founder of Religious Freedom and Business, and Miria Popasofroniou from Apax, a values-based grassroots initiative.
Opening the event, Daniel Zeichner MP
shared the importance of focusing on common values and working together, saying, “Conflict creates conflict… We choose to concentrate far more on things we can agree on.” Dr. Mohammed Ahmed spoke about the need to “align with the forces of integration and not disintegration,” encouraging unity and cooperation in society.
One of the key ideas discussed was “altruistic capital,” the belief that every person has a natural ability to care for and help others. The speakers highlighted
the importance of creating workplaces where people of all faiths and backgrounds can bring their best qualities and values to their work. This benefits not only individuals but also the wider community.
The programme provided an inspiring opportunity to reflect on how values can strengthen workplaces, communities, and society. Appreciation was expressed for the efforts of the UK Bahá'í Office of Public Affairs and all those involved in this meaningful initiative, which encourages dialogue, collaboration, and social harmony.
