Accepting Weaknesses of Someone You Love
By adopting an attitude of acceptance, we can transform our relationships into something truly beautiful. Let’s start today by embracing the imperfections in ourselves and those we love.
Are You Living as a Human Being or a Human Doing?
Have you ever wondered why we call ourselves “human beings” but often live as “human doings”? We are always busy doing things—working, running errands, managing life’s tasks—while neglecting the essence of simply being. So, what does it mean to be a being, and how can we rediscover that in our daily lives?
The Meaning of Being Human
The term “human” comes from the Greek word humus, meaning soil or Earth, which refers to our physical body. But there’s more to us than just the body. The being part refers to the soul—the peaceful, blissful essence within each of us. Together, this makes us “human beings,” a combination of body and soul.
However, in today’s fast-paced world, we’ve drifted away from this understanding. Instead of focusing on being, we are consumed by doing. We constantly chase after things—success, happiness, love—without realizing that the source of these desires lies within us. It’s time to reconnect with our true self and embrace our natural state of Being Bliss.
If our soul’s natural state is bliss, peace, and purity, why don’t we feel it in our daily lives? Imagine wearing a white kurta (shirt) in the morning. By the end of the day, it’s stained with dirt and spills from life’s activities. The kurta is still white at its core, but the stains hide its original color.
Similarly, our soul is pure and peaceful, but life’s experiences—stress, anger, resentment—act like stains that cover our true nature. The key is to remember that, just like the kurta is still white beneath the stains, we are still blissful beings beneath the layers of negativity. We must focus on clearing these layers to reveal our original nature.
The soul, often referred to as Sato-Guni Atma (a soul of seven qualities), is made up of seven core attributes. These qualities are the foundation of who we truly are:
These seven qualities are not something we need to find outside; they are already within us. However, over time, we’ve accumulated layers of negativity—like anger, doubt, and insecurity—that hide these qualities. Our journey is about clearing these layers and reconnecting with our inner self.
Just like a stained kurta needs a good wash to return to its original white, we need to cleanse our soul from the negativity that hides our true nature. But instead of focusing on each “stain” (like anger or stress), it’s more effective to focus on remembering our original state.
Every morning, start by reminding yourself: “I am a peaceful being. I am a blissful soul.” This simple thought, repeated daily, acts like a soap for the soul. Over time, it cleanses the layers of negativity, allowing your inner peace and bliss to shine through.
Holding on to negative thoughts is like carrying emotional weight. Just as physical weight affects your ability to move freely, emotional weight makes it difficult to experience peace, happiness, and love. For example, if you’re upset with someone and hold onto that resentment, it weighs you down emotionally, affecting your health, relationships, and overall well-being.
Letting go of negative thoughts is crucial for reclaiming your inner peace. It’s like the story of a monkey who reaches into a jar for peanuts. The monkey’s hand gets stuck because it’s holding onto too many peanuts. To free itself, the monkey must let go of a few peanuts. Similarly, to free ourselves from emotional pain, we must release the negative thoughts we hold onto.
One of the most powerful lessons in life is understanding that where your attention goes, energy flows, things grow. If you focus on negativity—such as thoughts of anger or resentment—those feelings grow stronger. But if you focus on peace, love, and bliss, these positive qualities will flourish.
Think of it like watering a plant. If you nourish a plant with water and sunlight, it will grow. Similarly, if you nourish your mind with positive thoughts, your inner peace and happiness will grow. The more you focus on your true nature, the more it will manifest in your life.
Just as you choose the clothes you wear each day, you can choose the thoughts you create. If you want peace, choose peaceful thoughts. If you want love, choose loving thoughts. Your mind is like a mirror—if it’s dirty, it won’t reflect your true self. But with regular cleaning, your inner beauty will shine through.
Instead of reacting to situations with anger or frustration, remind yourself, “I am a peaceful being.” This shift in thought will change your feelings, your attitude, and ultimately, your entire experience of life.
The journey to reclaiming your original nature is a daily practice. Each morning, take a moment to connect with your true self. Repeat the mantra: “I am a blissful being.” Let this thought guide your day. Whenever negativity arises, remind yourself of your true nature and shift your focus back to peace, love, and happiness.
This simple practice will gradually remove the layers of negativity and allow your true self to emerge. You will begin to experience more peace, more love, and more bliss in your life—not because you found it outside, but because you reconnected with what was always within you.
