The festival of Dhanteras or “Dhanatrayodashi” or “Dhanvantari Trayodashi marks the beginning of 5-day long Diwali festival. One of the most important festivals in India. The preparations for Diwali are at their peak.
The festival of Dhanteras is celebrated on the 13th lunar day of Krishna paksha (the fortnight following full moon day) in the Hindu calendar month of Ashwin. Shri Lakshmi – goddess of wealth is worshipped this day. This is to ensure prosperity, success etc. in the house. Purchasing of metals, utensils, jewellery etc. are considered auspicious on this day.
The Spiritual Significance
The celebration and the commemoration of this festival are symbolic of an unknown fact. God Shiva reincarnates at the end of Kaliyuga to fulfill his promise mentioned in Gita. The promise was to reincarnate when there will be doomsday or irreligiousness. He is The Ocean of Knowledge. He reveals why buying of jewellery etc. on this day is considered auspicious.
