Dadi Ratan Mohini ji, a spiritual gem, illuminated the path for millions worldwide. As the Administrative Head of Brahma Kumaris, her life was a testament to divine dedication. Born from the spiritual lineage of Brahma Baba, Dadiji’s journey reflected a century of unwavering commitment to spreading peace, love, and enlightenment.
Born on March 25, 1925, in Hyderabad, Sindh, into a prosperous and devout family, Dadi Ratan Mohini ji, initially named Lakshmi, was early on immersed in spiritual devotion, often worshipping God instead of engaging in play like her peers. At the age of 12, her first visit to ‘Om Mandali’—which would later evolve into the Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya—marked a profound spiritual awakening. Amidst the chanting of ‘Om,’ she experienced unparalleled peace and joy, a testament to her innate devotion. This experience deepened when she met PitaShri Brahma Baba upon his return from Kashmir; she felt an instant spiritual connection and recognized him as her true father, the Supreme Soul. Despite initial family reservations about her attending satsang due to her studies, Dadi’s resolve led her to pursue her education within the spiritual setting provided by Om Mandali, solidifying her path of devotion and service from a tender age.
In her early education, Dadi Ratan Mohini ji was exposed to an exceptional blend of academic and divine knowledge, which distinguished her as a bright student with a profound interest in spiritual learning. This unique schooling, established by Brahma Baba, offered her insights into elevated divine knowledge, fostering a sense of divine love and connection with the alaukik father. Her unwavering dedication to studies and Godly knowledge facilitated a deep integration of her intellect with gyan and yoga, guiding her towards a life devoted entirely to spiritual service and the Godly family.
As Dadiji transitioned from Hyderabad to Karachi, living under Baba’s guidance, she dedicated her life to the institution, embodying values of loyalty, divine service, and celibacy. Her life’s journey reflected a continual pursuit of spiritual elevation, with every moment devoted to contemplation, learning, and sharing divine wisdom, making her an instrumental figure in the task of world benefit.
Dadi Ratan Mohini ji’s spiritual foundation was solidified through 14 years of intense penance in Karachi, where she engaged in rigorous yoga programs and experienced profound divine connections, feeling empowered as a form of Shiva Shakti. This period was pivotal and prepared her for a life dedicated to service and spiritual upliftment. Despite the Pakistani government’s initial reluctance, the Brahma Kumaris’ move to Mount Abu symbolized a new chapter, showcasing their unwavering commitment to spreading peace and spiritual welfare globally.
Upon their arrival in Mount Abu, the change from the coastal climate of Karachi to the mountainous terrain of Abu initially impacted everyone’s health. However, resilience prevailed, and the community soon adjusted, eventually thriving in their new environment. This transition marked the beginning of a deeper spiritual practice. The daily routine of gyan murli classes, walks with Baba, and solitary meditation in the mountains fostered a profound sense of connection with the Divine, along with a feeling of being ‘the masters of themselves’ and experiencing it.
Dadi’s journey took a significant turn as the Brahma Kumaris’ presence in Mount Abu became established. The institution became a hub of spiritual activity and global service, with Dadiji receiving invitations to share her insights and experiences beyond Abu. Her travels for service took her across India and eventually led her to represent the institution at the 1954 World Peace Conference in Japan. These experiences not only broadened the Brahma Kumaris’ global footprint but also solidified Dadi Ratan Mohini ji’s role as a key ambassador of peace and spiritual wisdom.
Dadiji shared her intimate experiences with Baba, reflecting on the deep spiritual connection, her immediate obedience to divine guidance, and the personalized journey of learning and service that defined their path.
In 1954, Dadi Ratan Mohini ji embarked on her inaugural world service mission to the World Peace Conference in Japan, alongside Dadi Prakashmani ji and Dada Chandrahas ji. This marked her first international exposure, where she felt divinely appointed to spread spiritual wisdom. Engaging with the local and Buddhist communities, they left a lasting impact by disseminating divine knowledge and distributing thousands of pieces of spiritual literature. This year-long journey through Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Penang significantly enhanced the global presence of the Brahma Kumaris.
Dadiji’s services profoundly influenced diverse communities, especially the Sindhis and Gujaratis in Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, fostering a newfound respect and understanding of the institution’s spiritual teachings. Her efforts catalyzed broader acceptance and curiosity towards divine knowledge among these communities, illustrating the universal appeal and transformative power of the teachings she represented.
Post-Japan, Dadiji’s spiritual mission expanded across India and internationally from 1956 through the 1970s, notably laying the groundwork for the Brahma Kumaris in Mumbai and later in London, where she played a pivotal role in establishing service centres.
